Happy to have the book “Vivian Maier: Street Photographer” delivered at my door today. This book marks the first time her photographs are presented in print, with undoubtedly more to follow. It’s simply amazing how she kept her work unseen from the world, only to have it being discovered in 2007 by local historian John Maloof when he purchased a box of her negatives.
Much is unknown of her life, other than that she was born in New York in 1926 and worked as a nanny for a family in Chicago. According to Maloof she picked up photography around 1950, up until the late 1990s and leaving behind more than one hundred thousand negatives.
